“Protect against the dying of your light. The light of passion, of meaning, of life’s purpose; of becoming.”

REFLECTION

◆

There are seasons when the light within us burns brightly.

We are creating, discovering, building, loving, learning. We awaken daily to something that matters. Life asks something of us, and we willingly answer.

But sometimes that light can begin to dim.

Often, it dims quietly. Routine replaces curiosity. Weariness displaces enthusiasm. Responsibilities consume the spaces once reserved for things that gave us meaning. We may continue doing everything expected of us while slowly losing touch with what once made us feel most alive.

This can happen at any age, but perhaps we become especially vulnerable during life's transitions. A career ends. Children leave home. A long-held responsibility is completed. A dream is achieved—or quietly abandoned. Something that once gave our direction no longer occupies the place it once did.

Such seasons need not mark the dying of our light.

They may simply ask us to discover where the light wishes to burn next.

Purpose can change. Passion can mature. What once expressed itself through achievement may find new life through creativity, relationships, service, learning, or the patient tending of things entrusted to our care.

The task is not to remain forever who we once were.

It is to remain awake to what still calls us forward.
